Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Dual-Wing Tourbillon, introduced at the 2012 SIHH, features a unique second-hand flyback mechanism, making it the world’s first tourbillon watch capable of adjusting accuracy down to the second. The newly launched Deep Blue version combines Jaeger-LeCoultre’s expertise in jewelry setting, embellishing the case and dial with diamonds and aventurine.
The 44mm case is crafted from 18K white gold, and the bezel, lugs, dial, and crown are set with a total of 294 diamonds. A particularly remarkable feature is the fan-shaped diamond setting on either side of the tourbillon window, which adds a layered, dimensional effect to the watch’s structure. The main dial at 3 o’clock displays the time and date in two concentric rings, while the sub-dial at 12 o’clock shows the second time zone, and the small seconds are displayed at 6 o’clock.
By pressing the button at 2 o’clock, the small seconds hand of the tourbillon can be reset to zero, activating the flyback chronograph function. The flyback mechanism allows the second hand to return to zero and instantly restart, ensuring maximum precision without interrupting the movement of the regulating mechanism.
The Sphérotourbillon series features a complex double-axis tourbillon structure, with the inner axis completing a full rotation every 15 seconds and the outer axis every 30 seconds. The tourbillon carriage is made from a single piece of titanium, achieving both lightweight and high precision. The 14K gold rotor ensures a strong inertia to transmit power to the two barrels. Thanks to the dual-barrel structure, the watch boasts a 50-hour power reserve.
With its combination of a tourbillon, calendar, dual time zones, second-hand flyback, and intricate gemstone setting, this timepiece is undoubtedly one of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s most collectible pieces of the year.
