The Urwerk EMC TimeHunter X-Ray is a groundbreaking hybrid watch that combines traditional mechanical horology with electro-mechanical precision measurement. Released in 2016, the X-Ray version stands out for its black PVD titanium case and skeletal dial structure that reveals the technical architecture beneath. 
Electro Mechanical Control (EMC) Technology
The term EMC refers to Electro Mechanical Control, Urwerk’s patented system that allows the wearer to evaluate and adjust the watch’s timing rate by hand. The independent electronic monitoring module measures timing deviation and frequency, displaying real-time accuracy data on the dial. This makes the Urwerk EMC TimeHunter X-Ray one of the only watches in the world capable of manual on-wrist regulation. 
Case, Design, and Displays
Crafted in titanium, the case measures 43 × 51 mm and receives a full black PVD treatment, giving it a stealthy, technical appearance. Despite its size, the lightweight titanium construction ensures comfort on the wrist. The skeletonized dial features four distinct displays:
- Central hours and minutes
- Small seconds at 2 o’clock
- Power reserve indicator at 7 o’clock
- EMC accuracy monitor at 10 o’clock
The monitor includes a ±15-second precision gauge and a frequency reader capable of measuring between 18,000 and 33,000 vph. These readings help the wearer adjust timing through a regulating screw located on the caseback. 
Movement and Power System
The manual-winding mechanical movement delivers an impressive 80-hour power reserve. What makes the watch unique is the electronic module powered by a rechargeable battery that withstands over 200,000 charge cycles. Charging is done using a manual micro-generator operated by a fold-out generator arm at 11 o’clock. This component, made of ARCAP alloy, is engineered by Maxon — the same Swiss company whose motors were used in NASA Mars rovers.

The Urwerk EMC TimeHunter X-Ray is limited to only 15 pieces worldwide, making it extremely collectible. It was officially priced at €12,250.
