The Voutilainen 28 Hisui was awarded the “Artistic Crafts Watch Prize” at this year’s GPHG (Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève). This masterpiece was born from the collaboration between Finnish independent watchmaker Kari Voutilainen and Japanese lacquer artist Kitamura Tatsuo, blending the precision of haute horlogerie with the elegance of Japanese traditional craftsmanship. Both the dial and movement bridges feature exquisite Unryuan lacquer work, a Japanese technique reminiscent of Chinese raden (mother-of-pearl inlay). It combines gold leaf, jade, and mother-of-pearl fragments, creating a mosaic-like pattern that shimmers delicately under light — its beauty enduring for generations without fading. The 39mm case is crafted in 18K white gold, housing the in-house Caliber 28-80 manual-winding movement entirely developed by Kari Voutilainen. Beating at 18,000 vph, it showcases a large balance wheel that enhances visual harmony and mechanical poise.
The retail price is around USD 200,000, reflecting both its exceptional craftsmanship and rarity.
