Hautlence Retrovision ’47 Flying Tourbillon Watch

Independent watchmaker Hautlence unveiled the Retrovision ’47 tourbillon watch during the 2024 Watches & Wonders Geneva exhibition. Boldly inspired by vintage radios from the 1940s, the piece incorporates a flying tourbillon complication, while the case and dial cleverly reinterpret the functional and aesthetic features of classic radio designs — making it one of the brand’s most striking retro-inspired creations to date.

The watch draws its design inspiration from the “Model 5A5” radio launched in the 1940s by the Chicago-based General Television & Radio Corporation. The titanium case, hand-painted in green lacquer, vividly reproduces the look and texture of a bakelite radio cabinet, exuding a nostalgic vintage charm. The crown is positioned at 6 o’clock, while the lugs resemble radio handles, paired with a red leather strap for a bold contrast.

The dial faithfully recreates the visual layout of the Model 5A5 radio:

• The right-hand side frequency display has been reimagined as the hour and minute subdial, featuring red hands and Arabic numerals replacing the radio’s frequency scales.
• The central section and 12 o’clock marker incorporate Hautlence’s Möbius loop emblem.
• The left-hand “speaker grille” cleverly conceals the flying tourbillon, a subtle and stylish integration of form and function.

Inside ticks the ED20-SP00 automatic movement, operating at 21,600 vibrations per hour and offering a 72-hour power reserve. The caseback echoes the back panel of the vintage Model 5A5 radio, engraved like an old nameplate with the watch’s technical specifications.

The watch is presented on a red calfskin leather strap, limited to 10 pieces worldwide, with a retail price of €62,400.
