The name “Chronoscope” derives from the Greek roots for “time” (Chronos) and “to observe” (Scope). It was also the name given to the first chronograph created in 1885 by Louis Brandt, the predecessor of OMEGA, highlighting the significance of this new model.
The 43mm stainless steel case is slightly larger than the regular Speedmaster, while its 12.8mm thickness is slimmer than the Moonwatch. The silver “panda” dial features a symmetrical sub-dial layout: a combined hours and minutes counter at 3 o’clock and a small seconds at 9 o’clock. The rounded font of the numeral indices, paired with slender leaf-shaped hands, exudes an elegant, vintage style.
The watch features a total of four scales: the bezel carries the standard tachymeter. The central part of the dial, with its concentric circular layout inherited from OMEGA’s 1940s chronographs, houses three more: the outermost is a telemeter scale for calculating distance, the middle is a pulsometer scale for measuring heart rate, and the innermost is a second tachymeter scale with units from 55 to 20 (units per hour).
It is powered by the new OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9908 manual-winding movement, operating at 28,800 vph. Twin barrels provide a 60-hour power reserve. This movement offers resistance to magnetic fields reaching 15,000 gauss. Its decoration is also entirely new; the arabesque Geneva waves radiate outwards from the balance wheel, and the balance bridge and screws are treated with a black DLC coating.
It comes on a stainless steel bracelet. The official price is €8,800.
