Mikimoto introduced this diamond necklace in its 2023 “Praise to the Sea” High Jewelry collection. The designer skillfully employs an asymmetrical layout to depict a moving scene of a mother and calf blue whale chasing gemstone fish, creating a composition full of narrative tension and expressing homage to the brand’s origin: the ocean.
The streamlined forms of the two whales are crafted from white gold pavé-set with diamonds. Their tails extend and merge seamlessly with the waves. The pear-shaped aquamarines and tourmalines surrounding the whales represent small fish in the sea, while the round diamonds resemble glistening water droplets on the waves.
The undeniable visual focus of the entire necklace is a 41.54-carat cushion-cut green tourmaline positioned on the left. This primary stone is encircled and lifted by diamond-set waves and gemstone fish. From the cascading waves hangs a suspended drop-cut aquamarine, its clear blue hue capturing the poetry and dreamlike quality of the ocean.
