This necklace is part of Van Cleef & Arpels’ newly launched 
high jewelry collection, “Seven Seas”. The term “Seven Seas” originates from ancient Rome, initially referring to the point where the Po River flows into the Adriatic Sea. Over time, it became used in medieval European literature to refer to the seven seas known to sailors of the time: the Adriatic Sea, Mediterranean Sea, Caspian Sea, Black Sea, Red Sea, Indian Ocean, and Atlantic Ocean. Van Cleef & Arpels draws inspiration from these seven seas to create the “Seven Seas” collection.
The “Ciapotis” necklace focuses on the Mediterranean Sea. The centerpiece is a 15.73-carat cushion-cut blue-green tourmaline, surrounded by sapphires of various shades to reflect the delicate changes in the Mediterranean’s ocean colors. The necklace features round and pear-shaped diamonds, creating the illusion of the rippling sea surface touched by a gentle breeze. The diamonds’ fire mimics the sunlight glinting off the water’s surface. Hanging from the necklace is a white cultured pearl, which shines more brightly against the backdrop of sapphires and diamonds.
The designer incorporates Arabesque-style decorative patterns to symbolize the crashing of waves, with the entire necklace resembling a harmonious symphony composed by the sea. To offer more versatility in wear, both the pearls and their accompanying jewelry pieces are detachable, allowing them to be worn separately.
