Van Cleef & Arpels launched this necklace in their new high jewelry collection, “Treasure of Rubies,” in 2019, inspired by
red berries in the summer forest. The designer used rubies to evoke the vibrant colors of midsummer fruits, creating a lush natural scene. The necklace is named
“Jardin de rubis”, which means “Ruby Garden” in French.
The centerpiece of the jewelry is an
18.12ct cushion-cut ruby sourced from
Tanzania. Its crystal is clear and transparent, and under incandescent light, the ruby reveals the characteristic pink tint of its Tanzanian origin, which transitions to a flame-like bright red in daylight. This main stone is held by six small rose gold prongs, and the outer ring of the pendant is adorned with a
diamond-paved double ring, creating a visually striking three-dimensional effect.
To reflect the abundant fruits of midsummer, the designer set
small round gemstones around the pendant, resembling round berries nestled among dense branches. Red rubies, pink diamonds, and white diamonds are set in a staggered pattern, creating a colorful gradient. The precious metal settings between the gemstones are nearly invisible. The necklace also features a fruit-shaped pendant that swings lightly around the neck with the hanging ring.
Van Cleef & Arpels incorporated a unique
convertible design in this piece—there is a detachable structure hidden beneath the pendant, allowing it to be easily transformed into a
brooch. This clever design gives the 18.12ct ruby two wearing options, making the vibrant red berry the focal point.
