Tiffany introduced this striking Ribbon brooch in its 2019 Blue Book high jewelry collection, “Jewel Box”. The design is inspired by the white satin ribbons that adorn Tiffany gift boxes. Baguette-cut gemstones are arranged to form a naturally flowing ribbon motif, encircling a 37ct black opal at the center, evoking the moment of surprise when opening a gift.
The 37ct black opal features an oval cabochon cut and displays a vivid blue-green play-of-color. This distinctive optical effect is caused by light diffraction. Opal is composed of regularly arranged microscopic silica spheres. When light passes through these silica spheres, it is diffracted and dispersed into a rainbow-like spectrum.
Surrounding the central stone, layers of platinum ribbons outline a three-dimensional, fluid silhouette with a sense of movement. One side of the ribbon is set with brilliant diamonds, while the other transitions into luminous sapphires. All gemstones are baguette cut and precisely aligned along the setting rails, ensuring the ribbon motif appears cohesive and complete.
This brooch is housed in a specially commissioned round Tiffany jewelry box, crafted from 24K gold-plated metal, sterling silver, and 18K gold. The interior of the box is finely mirror-polished, reflecting a radiant golden sheen that enhances the brooch’s luxurious and luminous visual presence.
