The Panerai Luminor 1950 Flyback Chronograph represents the pinnacle of Panerai’s chronograph engineering. Introduced at SIHH, the Luminor 1950 Chrono Flyback Ceramica PAM00580 features the brand’s first automatic flyback chronograph movement, the P.9100 caliber, delivering precision, durability, and exceptional legibility.
Case & Materials
The watch is housed in a 44mm black zirconia ceramic case, which is five times harder than stainless steel, highly scratch-resistant, and surprisingly lightweight for enhanced comfort. The case retains the iconic Luminor 1950 cushion shape, with screw-down crown and chronograph pushers at 8 o’clock (flyback/reset) and 10 o’clock (start/stop). The flyback function allows the chronograph to reset and restart instantly during ongoing timing.
Dial & Chronograph Layout
The dial follows Panerai’s classic sandwich structure with a date window at 3 o’clock and small seconds at 9 o’clock. Chronograph minute and second hands are mounted centrally, offering a clean and intuitive reading experience. High contrast markers and hands ensure legibility even under challenging conditions.
P.9100 Automatic Flyback Movement
The P.9100 caliber is Panerai’s first in-house automatic flyback chronograph movement, featuring dual barrels and a 72-hour power reserve. It operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and is visible through the sapphire crystal case back. This movement exemplifies Panerai’s engineering prowess, combining reliability with a smooth chronograph experience.
Strap & Wearability
The watch comes with an untreated leather strap and titanium buckle, providing comfort and durability. Water resistance is rated at 100 meters, making it suitable for daily wear and light water activities.
