At the 2023 Watches & Wonders Geneva exhibition, IWC unveiled the new generation IWC Ingenieur Automatic 40, a tribute to the iconic 1976 creation by Gérald Genta – the Ingenieur SL Ref. 1832. The details of the dial and case incorporate signature elements from this historical model.

IWC Ingenieur Automatic 40 Case & Design

The watch is housed in a 40mm titanium case, blending sandblasted and mirror-polished finishes. The redesigned profile creates a softer, more fluid silhouette while maintaining the identity of the original. The case provides 100 meters of water resistance. The bezel is secured with five functional screws, and the lugs and H-link bracelet have been ergonomically improved for wrist comfort.

The gray dial features the original intersecting grid pattern from the classic Ingenieur SL, creating a strong architectural presence. The dial layout remains clean, with large hour, minute, and second hands, delivering optimal legibility. The date window sits at 3 o’clock, while the iconic INGENIEUR logo is positioned at 6 o’clock.

Powering the watch is the IWC 32111 automatic movement, operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour with an impressive 5-day power reserve. A soft iron inner case enhances magnetic resistance, staying true to the Ingenieur’s technical heritage.

The watch is paired with a titanium bracelet, and the official retail price is €14,000.
