This ring is part of De Beers’ Talisman collection, created to 
commemorate the 10th anniversary of their rough diamond series. In ancient Egypt, natural rough diamonds were believed to possess supernatural powers and were used as protective amulets. Inspired by these ancient legends, De Beers preserved the natural octahedral shape of the diamond, creating a collection that embodies the symbolism of protection.
The ring features a yellow-green rough diamond as the central stone, showcasing its raw octahedral form. Surrounding the rough diamond are four smaller rough diamonds and four long step-cut diamonds, weighing a total of 2.2 carats. The cut diamonds highlight the fiery brilliance and contrast the softer, more understated color and shine of the rough diamond, illustrating the different crafts bestowed by both nature and human hands.
The piece also features a rare “punctuated gold setting” (serti poincon), a technique in which metal is hammered to raise the setting around the diamond. This method, which can leave textures on the metal’s surface, is seldom used, but here it is applied perfectly, making the rough diamond appear as if it has emerged from the earth, much like gems that have been deep within the earth’s core since the planet’s formation.
The design is both earthy and refined, with the combination of rough and cut diamonds creating a sense of mystical energy and connection to the natural world. The soft and subtle color of the rough diamond enhances the piece’s aura, evoking the mysterious forces of nature.
