In its 2014 “California Reverie” collection, Van Cleef & Arpels introduced this turquoise necklace inspired by the ginkgo trees that line the boulevards of California. The piece captures the layered texture of ginkgo leaves through a precise pavé diamond arrangement, evoking their elegant and fan-like form.

To convey the three-dimensional folds of the ginkgo leaf, the designers crafted the pendant in the shape of an unfolded paper fan, setting diamonds along the vertical ridges. The leaf veins are traced with baguette-cut diamonds, whose clean, flowing lines emphasize the natural curves of the design.

The pendant is adorned with pearl tassels that sway gracefully, imitating the motion of ginkgo leaves fluttering in the breeze. The tassel caps are especially distinctive, designed to resemble pinecones with intricate layers that echo the dense, delicate foliage of the ginkgo tree.
