This tourbillon watch is Roger Dubuis’ preview piece for SIHH 2015, a tribute to the brand’s “Year of the Skeleton”. Based on the 2013 Excalibur 42 Tourbillon Squelette, this updated version is inspired by the intricate structure of a spider’s web.
The new model continues the Excalibur series’ signature tripartite lugs and grooved bezel design, with the case diameter increasing from 42mm to 45mm. The material is also upgraded from platinum to lightweight titanium. Additionally, the aluminum bezel now features numerals for easier time reading.
The star-shaped bridges are undoubtedly the standout feature of this tourbillon, and to match this skeleton design, the prince hands are also hollowed out. At 1 o’clock, you’ll find the barrel, while the 7:30 o’clock position houses the tourbillon, which is framed in a unique Celtic cross design. The tourbillon completes one full rotation every 60 seconds, and you can read the seconds on the black pointer.
This watch is powered by the Roger Dubuis RD505SQ manual winding movement, with a 21600 vph frequency and 60 hours of power reserve. Notably, the structure of this movement is inspired by celestial constellations, with the star angles pointing to different hour markers. Despite the complexity of the web-like structure, it maintains a clear and organized time reading.
