Patek Philippe Ref. 5520P Alarm Travel Time was introduced at the 2019 Baselworld watch fair.
Inspired by the 2015 Ref. 5524 Pilot’s Watch, this upgraded reference combines a dual-time system with a newly engineered 24-hour alarm mechanism. The result is one of the manufacturer’s most technically advanced contemporary travel watches.
Case and Design Details
The 42 mm platinum case features four functional crowns positioned symmetrically on both sides of the case, creating a bold pilot-inspired silhouette. Despite its mechanical complexity, the watch measures only 11.6 mm thick, making it highly wearable.
The black sunburst dial provides excellent legibility with luminous markers and hands. The skeletonized home-time hand and the two apertures at 3 and 9 o’clock display day/night indicators for both time zones. A date display sits at 6 o’clock.
24-Hour Mechanical Alarm
The signature feature of the Patek Philippe Ref. 5520P Alarm Travel Time is its 24-hour alarm located at 12 o’clock.
It can be set in 15-minute increments, with a bell-shaped display showing whether the alarm is activated. A hammer strikes a single gong, producing a clear, refined acoustic tone suitable for daily use.
Control System and Functions
The crown at 4 o’clock switches between winding, alarm setting, and time adjustment.
Pushers at 8 and 10 o’clock allow quick adjustment of the local hour hand, while the date corrector is subtly positioned near 7 o’clock for seamless operation.
Movement and Technical Construction
The watch is powered by the self-winding Caliber AL 30-660 SC FUS, built from 574 components and integrating four patented innovations.
It offers a power reserve of 42 to 52 hours depending on alarm use. Despite its complexity, the movement thickness is only 6.6 mm, showcasing Patek Philippe’s advanced engineering capabilities.
Matched with a black calfskin strap, the official retail price is 200,000 Swiss francs.
