This year marks the 11th anniversary of Louis Vuitton‘s entry into the watchmaking field. Since the launch of the first Tambour LV27 in 2002, LV has built its aesthetic and mechanical reputation in horology. Unlike other traditional watchmakers, LV’s watchmaking department has more freedom for exploration in design and craftsmanship. As a result, the Tambour collection has seen various styles, concepts, techniques, movements, and structural experiments. Especially after acquiring La Fabrique de Temps in 2011, LV began venturing into more complex functions like the minute repeater.
However, this year, LV’s spotlight isn’t on men’s watches, but on the new Tambour Monogram ladies’ collection, with the standout piece being this rose gold tourbillon with diamond embellishments.
As a ladies’ watch, it naturally cannot be as wide and bulky as the Tambour men’s pieces. The 38mm case is set with brilliant-cut diamonds, with a white mother-of-pearl dial featuring sunray engravings. The LV initials replace the hour markers at 12 o’clock, while the Monogram quatrefoil motif at 6 o’clock echoes the tourbillon’s framework, allowing for a view of the movement’s ruby bearings through the open-worked design.
Powered by the LV80 automatic movement, the tourbillon completes one full rotation every minute. This movement is crafted at LV’s La Fabrique du Temps workshop in Switzerland, the same place where the Tambour Répétition Minutes minute repeater was made in 2011.
Turning to the case back, all parts are meticulously polished and adorned with Geneva stripes. The 18K gold rotor is engraved with the LV logo, while the hexagonal crown is a signature design element of the Tambour collection.
As the most complicated model in the Tambour Monogram series this year, priced under 80,000 Swiss Francs, this watch is definitely a worthy candidate for your Christmas gift list.
