The Arceau Tigre is a new creation unveiled by Hermès at Baselworld this year. It marks the brand’s first use of the “Shaded Enamel” technique, a fusion of engraving and enamel artistry that brings to life a vividly detailed portrait of a tiger on the dial.
“Shaded Enamel” originates from the Limoges region of France. The process begins with engraving a pattern into the metal surface, followed by filling the design with black enamel. The deeper the engraving and thicker the enamel layer, the darker the resulting tone; shallower engraving and thinner enamel create lighter shades. The interplay of depth and contrast produces a richly dimensional enamel painting.
During the creation of the Arceau Tigre dial, the engraver and enameller must work in perfect harmony to ensure the carving depth precisely matches the intended shading. Even a deviation as fine as a strand of hair can alter the final visual outcome.
The 41mm white gold case features the Arceau collection’s signature stirrup-shaped lugs and houses the self-winding H1837 movement. The rotor is engraved with the Hermès “H” motif, offering a 50-hour power reserve.
