Cartier introduces an exceptionally creative high jewellery timepiece within its 2024 “Libre Polymorph” collection. The design takes inspiration from the carabiner, a familiar tool among outdoor and camping enthusiasts. Through a concealed clasp mechanism, it captures the functionality of a utility hook while ingeniously integrating a diamond-set watch dial—undoubtedly one of the most luxurious carabiners ever made.
This triangular carabiner is crafted in white gold, with both the front and back fully set with brilliant-cut diamonds, while the sides are adorned with step-cut diamonds. One edge features a sliding buckle structure: by gently pressing the domed sapphire, the hook opens. The opposite side subtly incorporates the timekeeping function, with a snow-set diamond dial, a ruby at 12 o’clock, and a case set with step-cut emeralds.
You may attach this “carabiner” to a belt loop, wear it as a pendant on a necklace, or fasten it to a bag. However, given the delicate nature of its gem-setting, it is not recommended for use as a functional climbing tool.
