Cartier’s Crash Skeleton is a highly anticipated piece, and for good reason—this is the first time we’ve seen a skeletonized version of the Crash watch since the 1991 men’s edition, making this a rare and exciting release after a 24-year hiatus.
The Crash Skeleton beautifully merges Cartier’s iconic Tank skeleton Roman numerals with the iconic Crash case, creating a surprising and new visual style. The skeletonized version stays true to the 1967 Crash case design, but with a slight modern twist: the case size has been increased by about 15%, now measuring 28×45mm (up from the original 23mm×38mm), offering a more comfortable fit for contemporary wrist sizes.
The case is crafted in platinum, with a convex sapphire crystal crown. Platinum, being much harder to process than gold, takes 5 to 10 times longer to produce, especially in the irregular Crash shape, making it a truly challenging material to work with.
Powering the Crash Skeleton is the 9618 MC hand-wound movement, specifically designed to fit perfectly within the uniquely shaped case. The movement offers a 3-day power reserve, and the sapphire crystal caseback allows you to appreciate the finely finished movement, complete with an engraved number and Cartier’s signature “C” on the balance wheel.
The platinum version is limited to just 67 pieces with a retail price of €50,000, while the diamond-set platinum edition is priced at €85,000, also limited to 67 pieces.
