Introduced as a Baselworld preview piece, this ultra-thin tourbillon is essentially a case variation of last year’s model — now rendered in platinum instead of rose gold. While the movement remains the same, its new case material adds a discreet sense of gravitas, and given that this is still among the thinnest tourbillon watches in the world, it’s a release well worth attention.
The 42mm case measures just 7mm thick, adorned with Breguet’s signature fluted coin-edge pattern along the sides. The engine-turned guilloché dial showcases several traditional decorative patterns, paired with blued Breguet hands — every detail exudes classical refinement.
Beneath its vintage charm, however, lies highly advanced modern horology. The ultra-thin off-centered tourbillon features a titanium carriage and balance wheel, while the hairspring and escapement are crafted from silicon. Even the barrel employs Breguet’s patented “high-energy” design, delivering a 90-hour power reserve.
To fit the 3mm-thick Caliber 581DR into a 7mm case while still offering automatic winding, Breguet engineers positioned a peripheral platinum rotor that winds bidirectionally — a solution also seen in some of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s ultra-thin grand complications.
Ultra-thin, automatic, tourbillon, platinum — a rare and masterful combination. The price is certainly high, but for connoisseurs, it represents the pinnacle of Breguet’s contemporary technical artistry balanced with timeless elegance.
