Officially launched at SIHH 2016, it is the production version of the “Acoustic Research” concept first revealed in 2015. The Supersonnerie sets a new benchmark for minute repeater clarity and volume, earning its status as the brand’s loudest and most resonant minute repeater.
Acoustic Innovation and Movement Architecture
Co-developed by Audemars Piguet and the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), the Supersonnerie movement employs hardened steel gongs mounted directly to the titanium case, with a resonance soundboard amplifying the tone. This ingenious system enhances sound projection and tonal quality without compromising the watch’s 20-meter water resistance.
Design and Chronograph Features
The 44mm titanium case houses a black openworked dial featuring a 30-minute chronograph counter at 3 o’clock and a tourbillon at 6 o’clock. Yellow minute markers improve legibility, while the overall design retains the bold aesthetics of the Royal Oak Concept series. The case combines titanium construction with a black ceramic screw-down crown and a rubber strap with titanium folding clasp.
Caliber 2937 Movement and Power Reserve
The watch is powered by the Caliber 2937 manual-winding movement, composed of 478 parts. Despite the complexity of the minute repeater mechanism, it provides a 42-hour power reserve and operates at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3 Hz). The combination of tourbillon, chronograph, and minute repeater complications demonstrates Audemars Piguet’s mastery of both acoustic and mechanical precision.
