In 2016, Montblanc introduced the Villeret Tourbillon Cylindrique Pocket Watch 110 Years Edition, a magnificent creation celebrating the brand’s 110th anniversary. Inspired by early 20th-century marine chronometers, the pocket watch features two sculpted hemispheres rising from the dial to represent the Earth, along with wave-like guilloché patterns, and combines three high complications — a cylindrical balance-spring tourbillon, dual time zones, and a GMT world-time display.
The dial design is richly detailed and visually striking. At 2 o’clock and 10 o’clock, two hemispheres — showing views of the Earth from the North and South Poles respectively — are crafted using hand engraving and enamel techniques. Around each hemisphere is a 24-hour scale indicating day and night across different longitudes. At 12 o’clock, a wind-rose-shaped subdial displays the second time zone, while at 6 o’clock, a large 14.5mm tourbillon with a cylindrical hairspring dominates the lower portion of the dial. The oversized cage enhances the visual depth and motion of the tourbillon.
Powering the watch is the Montblanc Caliber MB M68.40, a manual-winding movement beating at 18,000 vibrations per hour with a 48-hour power reserve. The cylindrical hairspring ensures a more consistent oscillation rate, enhancing long-term chronometric stability. The tourbillon bridge, a hallmark of Villeret craftsmanship, is distinguished by its elegant curvature and mirror-polished finish.Turning to the caseback, the movement reveals a hand-engraved wave motif, while the barrel cover is engraved with a sunburst design, creating a poetic interplay between the sea and the sky.
