In 2021, CHANEL introduced the J12 Electro Box collection — a striking ensemble of 12 unique timepieces inspired by the pulsating energy of 1990s electronic music. Each watch translates the rhythm and radiance of electro culture into vivid design language. The model presented here, “Track 5,” represents the fifth “track” in this series, distinguished by a bezel set with a gradient of purple and violet sapphires, evoking the freedom and vibrancy of the electronic soundscape.

Electronic music, with its immersive and multisensory character, became a defining element of popular culture in the 1990s. “When I designed this limited series,” says Arnaud Chastaingt, Director of the CHANEL Watch Creation Studio, “I imagined it like composing a DJ set — reinterpreting CHANEL’s iconic watches through the visual language of electronic music.”

All twelve J12 Electro Box watches are presented together in a black lacquered display case, like a polyptych installation. Each model features its own unique color scheme — pink, violet, blue, cyan, green, yellow, orange, and red — forming a vibrant chromatic progression that mirrors the rhythm and harmony of an electronic symphony.

The “Track 5” edition features a 38 mm matte black highly resistant ceramic case, whose velvety finish conveys subtle sophistication. The bezel is adorned with 46 baguette-cut sapphires in deep blue and violet hues, weighing a total of 6.37 carats. The luminous stones shimmer elegantly against the dark ceramic, creating a captivating interplay of light and color.

The matte black dial maintains CHANEL’s signature crosshair layout and railway-style minute track. The hands, hour markers, and CHANEL logo are accented in the same violet-blue tone, perfectly echoing the bezel’s sapphires and enhancing the watch’s ethereal aura.

Powering the watch is the Calibre 12.1 automatic movement, designed and developed by the Swiss manufacture Kenissi. Certified by the COSC chronometer standard, it beats at 28,800 vph and provides a 70-hour power reserve. Through the sapphire crystal caseback, one can admire the tungsten oscillating weight — a hallmark of CHANEL’s technical refinement.
The watch is fitted with a black ceramic bracelet, completing its bold yet elegant monochrome look.
