The Langematik Perpetual, launched in 2001, was A. Lange & Söhne’s first watch to feature an automatic movement paired with a big date and perpetual calendar. Thanks to its sophisticated gear mechanism, the perpetual calendar needs adjusting only once every 100 years, while the moon phase error is just one day every 122.6 years, making this timepiece nearly perfect in terms of timekeeping accuracy.
A. Lange & Söhne is renowned for its black dial layouts, and this perpetual calendar cleverly combines sunk (black background, white text) and raised (white background, black text) numerals for a balanced and easy-to-read layout. The most practical and striking feature is the large date window at 12 o’clock, offering instant clarity on the date.
The watch is powered by the SAX-0-MAT movement, and when the crown is pulled out for adjustment, the second hand resets to zero. While the power reserve is relatively short at 46 hours, this is arguably the only drawback of the watch.
