The design of the RICHARD MILLE RM 63-01 “Dizzy Hands” draws inspiration from a verse by 19th-century French Romantic poet Gérard de Nerval:

“The wise man alone knows how to make use of time.”
Its unique Dizzy Hands complication allows the wearer to disrupt the orderly motion of the dial — only the wearer decides when to restore the correct time.

The RM 63-01 is one of the few round watches in the Richard Mille collection, measuring 42.7 mm in diameter and 11.7 mm thick. The front and back are crafted from 18K rose gold, while the middle case is made of lightweight, durable titanium, secured by eight signature spline screws. The satin-brushed finish and the smooth, curved lugs create a harmonious and refined aesthetic.

The dial is made entirely of transparent sapphire crystal, printed with twelve Arabic numerals. This open construction fully reveals the intricate mechanics beneath. The sword-shaped hour and minute hands are finely satin-brushed with faceted edges, exemplifying the brand’s precision finishing.

The defining feature — the “Dizzy Hands” function — perfectly expresses Richard Mille’s inventive spirit. By pressing the crown’s pusher, the sapphire dial begins to rotate counterclockwise, while the hour hand simultaneously turns clockwise at a different speed. This orchestrated disarray allows time to drift freely, creating a poetic reflection on the fluid nature of temporality. Press the button again, and both the dial and the hour hand return precisely to their proper positions, grounding the wearer once more in the present moment.

Powering this extraordinary mechanism is the CRMA3 automatic movement, with a 50-hour power reserve. Richard Mille’s engineers drew inspiration from chronograph architecture, separating the hour and minute gear trains — allowing the hour hand to rotate independently when the special function is activated. At 1 o’clock, a column wheel controlling the sapphire dial’s rotation can be seen through the crystal, serving as a visual signature of the complication’s ingenuity.
