The Yoshino ring is part of Cartier’s 2018 “Coloratura” High Jewelry collection, inspired by Japan’s iconic Somei-Yoshino cherry blossoms. The design captures the delicate beauty of spring through a soft pink palette, harmoniously combining morganite, pink sapphires, and opals to evoke the poetic subtlety of Japanese aesthetics.
At the center lies a 17.12-carat cushion-cut morganite, glowing with a luminous rose-pink hue. Belonging to the beryl family alongside emeralds and aquamarines, morganite owes its gentle color to traces of manganese (Mn). Its remarkable clarity and brilliance lend the gemstone a serene and romantic radiance.
To accentuate the morganite’s delicate tone, the designer placed two cabochon-cut opals on either side of the central stone. Their iridescent flashes of pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet create a kaleidoscopic shimmer — a vivid counterpart to the soft pink heart of the design.
The broad ring band frames the central composition with geometric precision, outlined in brilliant-cut diamonds. Paved with round diamonds and pink sapphires in a bezel setting, the design subtly echoes the natural pink hues of cherry blossoms in full bloom — a tribute to Mount Yoshino, Japan’s legendary sakura-viewing sanctuary.
