The Altiplano 900P is named after Piaget’s first ultra-thin hand-wound movement, the Caliber 9P, introduced in 1957. In fact, of Piaget’s 35 in-house movements, 23 are ultra-thin, with 12 of them breaking world records at the time.
The watch features an 18K white gold case with a 38mm diameter and an astonishing thickness of just 3.65mm. The movement is composed of 145 components, with the thinnest gear measuring only 0.12mm. To achieve this ultra-thin design, the dial and movement are integrated, with the main plate slightly raised above the hands to withstand pressure from the crystal.
Through the crystal, you can observe the operation of the balance wheel and gears directly, a design choice that saves space while also adding an aesthetic pleasure to the dial. The barrel is uniquely designed with an independent bridge that “suspends” it on one side of the dial, and the watch still boasts a 48-hour power reserve.
