The IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar 42 was unveiled at Watches & Wonders 2020, showcasing a refined 42mm case size, down from the previous 44mm, and integrating the perpetual calendar into the in-house 82000 movement series. This watch preserves the classic Portugieser elegance with a cleaner, more compact design.
Case & Dial
The 42mm red gold case features elegant proportions and a white dial with a minute track, Arabic numerals, and leaf-shaped hands. The new layout condenses four previous subdials into three for better readability: 3 o’clock shows the calendar disc, 6 o’clock integrates the month disc and moon phase display, while 9 o’clock features the weekday disc with a leap year indicator. The central seconds hand replaces the former small seconds subdial.
Perpetual Calendar Function
The perpetual calendar automatically adjusts for month lengths, and all displays are synchronized, adjustable via the crown. The moon phase is precise for 577.5 years, deviating only one day. This model demonstrates IWC’s mastery in combining technical innovation with traditional watchmaking aesthetics.
Movement & Performance
Powered by the IWC 82650 self-winding movement with 326 components, 28,800 vph beat rate, and 60-hour power reserve, this timepiece advances the calendar module with a single pulse at midnight. The Pellaton automatic winding system uses zirconia ceramic components for exceptional durability. The movement is visible through a sapphire crystal case back.
