IWC unveiled the new Mark XVIII pilot’s watch at SIHH 2016. Positioned as an entry-level model, it maximizes dial readability and recognizability, returning to a clean and pure design language.

The dial is offered in three options — classic black, a first-time silver dial more suited for indoor daily wear, and the “Le Petit Prince” edition in deep blue (Midnight Blue), symbolizing the starry sky from the Little Prince story.

The most notable change in the dial design is the date window at 3 o’clock. Instead of the three-day date display which takes up more space, the new model features a single-date window, with the date disc color matching the dial for a more unified visual effect. However, traditionalists of the Mark XI may feel the date window slightly disrupts the dial’s symmetry.

The case size is slightly reduced from 41mm in the Mark XVII to 40mm, with a thickness of just 11mm, giving it a more vintage feel and better fit for Asian wrists. It retains the soft-iron inner case for anti-magnetic protection and is powered by the Caliber 30110 (based on ETA), finely regulated by IWC, offering 42 hours of power reserve and 30 meters water resistance.

The new Mark XVIII features IWC pilot watch’s signature design elements and is notably more comfortable for daily wear compared to traditional pilot watches. Glancing at the time amid a busy day can evoke a sense of imagination and longing for the skies.
The official cost is $ 31, 500
