This Monsieur de Chanel High Jewelry edition jumping hour watch is set with nearly 300 diamonds with a total weight of approximately 11 carats. Its most distinctive feature is the exclusive use of baguette-cut diamonds, allowing this dazzling jeweled timepiece to retain a masculine character.
The “Monsieur de Chanel” was first introduced in 2016 as Chanel’s first watch designed specifically for men – the word “Monsieur” means “Gentleman” in French. This diamond-set version focuses on a luxurious exterior, achieving a balance between masculine style and decoration through the cut and layout of the diamonds.
The dial background is paved with 174 baguette-cut diamonds. Each stone has only 25 facets, resulting in a more subdued sparkle compared to traditional brilliant cuts, making it more suitable for a men’s watch. The case, bezel, and lugs are also set with baguette-cut diamonds totaling nearly 6 carats. Each diamond is individually custom-cut for a seamless fit between adjacent stones.
The dial continues the off-center layout:
6 o’clock: An octagonal jumping hour aperture, inspired by the architectural contour of the Place Vendôme.
12 o’clock: A 240-degree retrograde minutes display. The minute hand instantly snaps back to the zero marker upon reaching 60 minutes, at which moment the hour digit also advances instantaneously.
Center: Small seconds sub-dial.
The 40mm white gold case houses the in-house Caliber 1 manual-winding movement. Beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and powered by twin barrels, it offers a 72-hour power reserve. This movement, developed by Chanel in collaboration with independent watchmaker Romain Gauthier, comprises 170 components. The movement bridges and gears feature an elegant openworked design, offering an architectural beauty when viewed through the caseback. It is water-resistant to 30 meters.
