CHANEL J12 Electro Box “Track 5” Watch Review

In 2021, CHANEL launched the J12 Electro Box collection — a set of 12 unique timepieces inspired by the vibrant energy of 1990s electronic music. Each watch translates the rhythm of electro culture into colorful design. The “Track 5” edition stands out with a bezel set with a gradient of purple and violet sapphires, echoing the freedom and vibrancy of the electronic soundscape.

Electronic music defined 1990s pop culture. “When designing this limited series,” says Arnaud Chastaingt, Director of the CHANEL Watch Creation Studio, “I imagined it like composing a DJ set — reinterpreting CHANEL’s iconic watches through electronic music’s visual language.”

All twelve J12 Electro Box watches are presented in a black lacquered display case, each with its own color scheme forming a chromatic progression that mirrors the rhythm of an electronic symphony. The “Track 5” model has a 38 mm matte black highly resistant ceramic case and a bezel adorned with 46 baguette-cut sapphires (≈6.37 ct), creating a captivating light interplay.

The matte black dial features CHANEL’s signature crosshair layout and violet-blue accents on hands, hour markers, and logo, echoing the bezel’s sapphires. Powering the watch is the Calibre 12.1 automatic movement, certified by COSC, with 28,800 vph and a 70-hour power reserve. The sapphire crystal caseback reveals the tungsten oscillating weight, a testament to CHANEL’s technical mastery.

The watch is completed with a black ceramic bracelet for a bold yet elegant look.
