At Baselworld 2015, Burberry unveiled the The Britain Icon Check, a new timepiece inspired by the brand’s signature check motif. The design masterfully combines an openworked dial with classic fashion elements, resulting in a watch that is both stylish and remarkably easy to pair with any outfit.
The 45 mm cushion-shaped case is made of titanium, finished with brushed and polished surfaces, and coated with a bronze-toned DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) layer that lends it a refined vintage appeal. The check-pattern skeleton dial takes inspiration from a design first introduced in 1920, when it appeared as the lining of Burberry’s iconic trench coats.
The date window is ingeniously placed at 5 o’clock, and its angle of orientation mirrors the direction of the dial’s openworked check pattern, as if light were streaming in diagonally from the upper left corner to illuminate the date.
Through the open dial, one can observe the ETA 2824-2 automatic movement and its date disc beneath. The movement offers a 42-hour power reserve, and the model is limited to 20 pieces.
