During the 2021 Watches & Wonders exhibition, Cartier unveiled the Cloche de Cartier Skeleton, a captivating reinterpretation of one of its most distinctive designs. The watch continues the series’ hallmark “cloche” (bell-shaped) case while ingeniously incorporating a skeletonized dial and movement, creating a light, airy composition rich with mechanical intrigue.
The Cloche watch traces its origins back to 1920 and remains one of Cartier’s rarest and most unusual creations. Its name, meaning “bell” in French, comes from the watch’s unique silhouette—when placed horizontally, the case resembles a desk bell. This charming design allows the watch to stand upright on a surface, much like a miniature clock.
The new edition features a 37.15 mm × 28.75 mm platinum case, just 6.7 mm thick. Thanks to its highly openworked structure, the watch appears even slimmer than its measurements suggest. The mirror-polished case contrasts beautifully with the satin-brushed bridges of the skeletonized movement. Two elegant blued-steel hands mark the hours and minutes, while the crown is adorned with a cabochon ruby—a Cartier signature touch.
Inside is the hand-wound Caliber 9626 MC, specially developed from the 1917 MC movement. The bridges are meticulously skeletonized to fit the asymmetrical case while maintaining stability for the balance wheel and gear train. Ingeniously, the bridges are shaped to form the Roman numeral hour markers, integrating the time display directly into the movement’s architecture. The movement offers a 38-hour power reserve.
Paired with a black alligator leather strap, this elegant creation is limited to 50 pieces worldwide, priced at ≈ 64500 €.
