Since the 1960s, Bulgari has been experimenting with combining colored gemstones and innovative linking techniques to create soft, flexible Serpenti jewelry. The original design inspiration came from medieval antique pieces, with the first Serpenti watch crafted in enamel and gold. This blend of elegance, versatility, and subtle danger quickly appealed to high-society women, and new Serpenti jewelry pieces have been released annually ever since.

The 2012 Serpenti ring features the classic double-coil design, rendered in a more abstract style. The snake’s head is represented by a red tourmaline, while the scales are composed of individually set, open-worked brilliant-cut diamonds (totaling approximately 2.6 carats). The combination of 18K rose gold and tourmaline creates a warm vintage feel, while remaining soft and elegant.

The same year, the Serpenti necklace and earrings pushed the abstraction of snake motifs further, with moonstone accents placed between diamonds and red tourmaline. The pendants at the necklace and earring ends mimic snake tails, producing a subtle, understated effect.
