Among the few World Cup–themed watches released this year, Bulgari’s Octo Bi-Retro stands out — not just for its design, but for its authentic Gerald Genta heritage.

Originally launched in 2010 as the first Bulgari timepiece based on a Gerald Genta design, the new 2014 edition keeps the exact same aesthetic layout, though all references to the Genta name and logo have now been removed.

The Octo Bi-Retro is unmistakably iconic: a jumping hour window at 12 o’clock, a retrograde minute scale around the upper half of the dial, and a retrograde date display at 6 o’clock. Bulgari’s edition modifies the original Genta minute scale from 5-minute steps to 10-minute intervals, giving it a sportier, bolder presence.
The lacquered dial is crafted using a champlevé enamel technique and inspired by the colors of the Brazilian flag — blue base, green minute arc, and yellow date track — a vivid and festive palette for the World Cup edition.

Inside ticks the GG7722 automatic movement, a reliable dual retrograde caliber tracing its lineage back to the 1990s, operating at 28,800 vph with a 45-hour power reserve.

Limited to 50 pieces, this model combines Bulgari’s refined construction with one of Gerald Genta’s most inventive mechanical layouts — a true collector’s piece celebrating both heritage and sport.
