Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse Ref. 5738R-001 Overview
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Golden Ellipse collection, Patek Philippe released the Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse Ref. 5738R-001 at Baselworld 2018. This model continues the signature rounded-rectangle silhouette based on the golden ratio, a design that has become one of the brand’s most iconic shapes.

The watch features a 34 x 39.5 mm rose gold case paired with an ebony black sunburst dial. The slender baton-style hour markers and hands create a refined contrast against the deep black background. The crown is set with a cabochon-cut onyx, visually echoing the dial’s elegant dark tone.

Movement and Technical Features
The original Golden Ellipse models were known for their ultra-slim manual-winding movements. The Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse Ref. 5738R-001 continues this legacy by housing the Caliber 240, an ultra-thin 2.53 mm self-winding movement equipped with a 22K gold micro-rotor. Thanks to this construction, the entire watch remains only 5.9 mm thick, making it the thinnest Golden Ellipse reference to date.
The movement operates at 21,600 vph and offers a 48-hour power reserve. Its slim architecture makes it ideal for a dress watch that aims to stay discreet yet luxurious underneath a cuff.

Design, Strap, and Accessories
The watch is fitted with a black alligator leather strap secured with a rose gold buckle shaped in the familiar rounded-rectangle form. The official retail price is 28,450 euros.
Additionally, Patek Philippe offers matching rose gold cufflinks decorated with the same ebony black sunburst finish, creating a cohesive and elegant ensemble suitable for formal occasions.
