At Watches & Wonders Geneva 2024, Piaget unveiled its latest record-breaking timepiece – the “Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon”. This new creation builds upon the Altiplano Ultimate Concept by incorporating a tourbillon complication, while remarkably maintaining the same 2mm case thickness.

The 41.5mm case is crafted from cobalt alloy, a metal known for its exceptional hardness and strength, ensuring the ultra-thin case remains shock-resistant and reliable for daily wear. A deep blue PVD coating accentuates the golden movement components, hands, and markers, providing excellent legibility. The sapphire crystal is a mere 0.2mm thick, and the crown at 9 o’clock features a flushed, integrated design, contributing to the watch’s perfectly seamless profile.

The new Caliber 970P-UC required three years of development, with 90% of its components being re-engineered or adjusted. It continues the groundbreaking design philosophy of integrating the movement with the dial. Positioned at 10 o’clock on the dial is an ultra-thin “flying tourbillon”. This tourbillon module is secured by peripheral bridges and utilizes a ball-bearing mechanism, significantly reducing energy loss caused by friction and ensuring the movement delivers a 40-hour power reserve.

A sub-dial at 12 o’clock with golden hands and markers displays the hours and minutes, and for the first time, includes a minute track on its inner ring. The winding gear train at 3 o’clock connects to the openworked barrel at 6 o’clock, allowing a full view of the movement in operation. A special small bridge at 3 o’clock bears the founding year “1874”, paying homage to the brand’s 150-year watchmaking history.

Finally, it is noteworthy that the watch’s case back also features a dedicated sapphire crystal window, just 0.16mm thick, to showcase the other side of the tourbillon’s rotation. Its edge is engraved with the Piaget motto: “Toujours faire mieux que nécessaire” (“Always do better than necessary”).
