In this year’s Abeille high jewelry collection, Chaumet presents these exquisite earrings,
inspired by the Naturalism style of jewelry created by the brand in the mid-19th century. The design focuses on the bee, symbolizing nature’s vitality, and uses vibrant colored gemstones to bring this theme to life.
The bee has been one of Chaumet’s most significant animal motifs, originally drawn from the Napoleon family’s coat of arms. The brand’s iconic Bee My Love collection also centers around the bee, using hexagonal patterns to imitate the structure of a honeycomb. The name, Bee My Love, also carries a romantic connotation.
This timeless motif is reinterpreted in the Abeille collection, where the design returns to the naturalistic forms of bees seen in 19th-century jewelry. The designer meticulously observed the bee’s anatomy, using two pear-shaped gemstones to represent the bee’s head and abdomen, with the chest inlaid with round gemstones. The earrings feature a vibrant color palette: manganese aluminum garnet and yellow sapphire represent the bee’s stripes, while tsavorite and peridot symbolize the lush greenery of spring.
In the wings of the bee, Chaumet adds a special touch with “double-layered” wings, creating the illusion of movement as the bee flaps its wings. The top layer is set with diamonds in platinum, while the bottom layer is crafted from 18K gold, with delicate openwork design that highlights the bee’s lightweight form.
