To celebrate the 55th anniversary of the Grand Seiko brand, Seiko unveiled the 62GS Reissue at Baselworld this year. The model faithfully recreates the design philosophy of the original 1967 Grand Seiko 62GS, the brand’s first automatic wristwatch — making it an absolute must-have for Grand Seiko enthusiasts.
The new edition meticulously reproduces every refined detail of the original 62GS: the sapphire crystal glass integrated seamlessly into the case maximizes dial luminosity; the hidden crown at 4 o’clock emphasizes the concept of “no need for manual winding” simplicity; the cleanly angled lugs lend an elegant profile; and Seiko’s renowned Zaratsu polishing ensures that every square millimeter of the case surface is as smooth and mirror-like as silk.
Compared to the 1967 original, the reissue has been subtly refined for modern wearability, the most noticeable update being the case size, which has increased from 41 mm to 42.5 mm, aligning with contemporary men’s watch proportions. Additionally, the crown at 4 o’clock now also allows manual winding.
Inside ticks Seiko’s in-house Caliber 9S65, offering a 72-hour power reserve and a daily accuracy rate of -3 to +5 seconds.
The model is available in stainless steel, white gold, rose gold, or yellow gold. The stainless steel version is limited to 600 pieces, while each of the gold versions is limited to 100 pieces.
