The RM 30-01 Le Mans Classic is a limited-edition watch created by Richard Mille, the official partner of the Le Mans Endurance Race, to celebrate the 12th Le Mans Classic event. This new model continues to feature the exclusive “clutch rotor” winding system and integrates the iconic white and green colors of the Le Mans Endurance Race into the dial. For the first time, it also offers a 24-hour indicator disc as a tribute to the race’s rules.
The new watch comes with a tonneau-shaped case measuring 42mm x 49.94mm, with a thickness of 17.59mm. The main case is crafted from Grade 5 titanium, which is satin-brushed to create a layered grey metal texture, while the middle case is made from green Quartz TPT (quartz fiber). The titanium crown is covered with orange rubber and features a racing wheel hub design, which enhances the sense of speed. A button at 2 o’clock is used to switch the crown’s function.
The skeletonized dial is reminiscent of the winding race track, with the most striking feature being the 24-hour indicator disc at 2 o’clock. A blue triangular hand points to the current hour reading, synchronized with the main hour and minute hands. This design is a special tribute to the 24-hour time format of the Le Mans Endurance Race, with the number “16” on the disc highlighted in green to symbolize the legendary race’s green-flag start.
At 3 o’clock, there is a crown function indicator, and at 4 o’clock, there is an oversized double-digit date window adorned with black-and-white checkered flag elements. From 9 o’clock to 12 o’clock, there is a power reserve indicator, and the top left corner of the dial displays the ON/OFF status for the clutch rotor system. This unique winding module allows the rotor to automatically disengage after the mainspring barrel is fully wound, preventing over-winding that could damage the movement.
The watch is powered by the RMAR2 automatic movement, with a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a 55-hour power reserve. The sapphire crystal caseback features the Le Mans Classic checkered flag logo, and through the caseback, one can admire the movement’s black PVD coating, sandblasting, polishing, and beveling details.
