Patek Philippe Calatrava Ref. 5227

As one of Patek Philippe’s most iconic collections, the Calatrava has been in continuous production for 81 years. The new Calatrava Ref. 5227 is the first model to feature a dust cover whose hinge is completely concealed within the caseback. Even the most experienced connoisseurs will find it nearly impossible to detect, exemplifying Patek Philippe’s supreme craftsmanship in case making.

The hinged dust cover and sapphire-crystal exhibition back are connected by an invisible hinge, which can only be seen when the cover is opened to reveal the personalized engraving or to admire the movement. Each case is individually adjusted by hand to ensure a perfectly smooth and seamless closure.

Viewed from the side, the case reveals delicate grooves that extend outward and gently curve from the flanks toward the lugs. These flutes are hand-engraved into the solid gold case and, like all other components, are polished by hand to a mirror-like finish.

The Ref. 5227 features a cream-lacquered dial with applied trapezoidal hour markers and a minute circle composed of fine dots. It is equipped with faceted sword-shaped hour and minute hands and a slender seconds hand with a counterweight, exuding understated elegance.

Inside beats the self-winding Caliber 324 SC movement, fitted with a large four-arm Gyromax balance and a Spiromax balance spring made of Silinvar. It oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and meets the precision standards of the Patek Philippe Seal, with an accuracy of -3 to +2 seconds per day. The 21K gold central rotor efficiently converts the slightest wrist motion into winding energy.

The white gold version is paired with a hand-stitched alligator leather strap featuring square scales. With its 39 mm diameter and slim 9.24 mm profile, the Ref. 5227 offers both refined aesthetics and exceptional comfort for everyday wear.
