The Panerai Radiomir 1940 47mm (PAM00514) was highly praised when it debuted at the 2013 SIHH. It continues the classic 47mm large dial size and is powered by the in-house P.3000 movement.
The design of the case is inspired by the 1940s Radiomir, developed to meet the needs of the Italian Navy commandos for sturdiness. Panerai altered the traditional welded lug design and instead milled the lugs from a single block of steel, making them larger and stronger than the ones from the 1930s.
In addition, the crown design was also modified, becoming larger and adopting a cylindrical onion-head shape instead of the original cone shape. These changes ultimately led to the creation of the Luminor case. Therefore, this piece holds significant historical value.
The Radiomir 1940 47mm retains Panerai’s signature sandwich dial design, with the luminous material between the layers ensuring optimal legibility in the dark. The dial features the classic three hands with a date window.
The watch is powered by Panerai’s in-house P.3000 manual winding movement, which features dual spring barrels offering a 72-hour power reserve. Additionally, the movement allows for independent hour hand adjustment without affecting the minute hand, making it a practical feature for travelers crossing time zones.
The steel version comes with a leather strap, while the rose gold version is paired with a crocodile leather strap. However, we prefer the steel version as it better evokes the 1940s aesthetic.
