This Etruscan torque necklace is a creation by American designer Loren Nicole, unveiled at the 2017 Couture Jewelry Show. The design draws inspiration from the delicate filigree ornamentation found on ancient Etruscan bracelets. Hand-shaped strands of fine gold wire are bent into flowing, undulating waves that encircle the neck, evoking an aura of primal elegance and timeless craftsmanship. The necklace consists of twelve continuous gold-wire waves crafted from 20K gold — a material soft enough for meticulous hand forming, yet durable for wear. The designer shaped nearly fifty peaks and valleys, each precisely joined to the gold frame to create a detailed openwork pattern. To achieve a harmonious visual rhythm, every curve’s angle and proportion had to be perfectly consistent, with a delicate balance of tension to prevent the fine wires from breaking.
At both ends of the necklace, six round-cut blue topaz stones are bezel-set — each encased within a smooth gold rim. This ancient bezel setting technique perfectly complements the filigree-like motif and reinforces the design’s archaic, artisanal charm.
