At the 2023 Watches & Wonders Geneva exhibition, IWC unveiled the new generation Ingenieur Automatic 40, a tribute to the iconic 1976 creation by Gérald Genta – the Ingenieur SL Ref. 1832. The details of the dial and case incorporate signature elements from this historical model.

The watch is housed in a 40mm titanium case, which blends sandblasted and mirror-polished finishes, with carefully reconstructed lines that give it a softer, more fluid profile. The case offers 100 meters of water resistance. The bezel is secured by five screws, and the lugs and H-link bracelet have been ergonomically redesigned to ensure a comfortable fit on the wrist.

The gray dial features the same intersecting grid pattern seen in the original Ingenieur SL, presenting a multi-dimensional effect. The dial layout is simple with large hour, minute, and second hands, and the markers evoke the design from the 1970s, offering excellent legibility while maintaining a discreet style. The date window is at 3 o’clock, and the iconic “INGENIEUR” logo appears at 6 o’clock.

Powering the watch is the IWC 32111 automatic movement, with a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and an impressive 5-day power reserve. The soft iron inner case protects the movement from magnetic fields.
The watch is paired with a titanium bracelet, and the official retail price is €14,000.
