Cartier unveiled the Obi emerald and diamond necklace in its 2023 Beautés du Monde High Jewelry collection. The design draws inspiration from traditional Japanese embroidered textile patterns, skillfully combining openwork metal and gemstone settings to create layered geometric motifs. Particularly remarkable is the harmonious arrangement of curved Zambian emeralds of consistent color and clarity — an exceptionally rare feature.
Crafted in platinum, the necklace’s openwork design creates a light and translucent visual effect. The chain centers on eight curved-cut Zambian emeralds, framed by radiating fan-shaped motifs set with diamonds, rubies, and onyx, resulting in a refined interplay of contrasting colors. The motif itself references the embroidered patterns found on Japanese kimonos, and the name “Obi” (おび) refers to the traditional sash used to tie a kimono.

At the center of the pendant lies a 12.53-carat oval-cut emerald. The pendant features a convertible design that allows it to be detached and worn separately as a brooch, blending versatility with exquisite craftsmanship.
