The Clé de Cartier Flying Tourbillon was introduced by Cartier at the 2015 Watches & Wonders exhibition, marking the first Clé de Cartier timepiece equipped with a complication.
The 35mm case is crafted in 18K white gold, entirely set with 478 brilliant-cut diamonds totaling approximately 3.56 carats. Blued-steel sword-shaped hands sweep over blue Roman numerals, whose slightly italicized typography lends the watch a sense of rhythm and movement. The flying tourbillon, positioned at 6 o’clock, stands out prominently against the compact dial, emphasizing its mechanical artistry.
Powering the watch is Cartier’s in-house Caliber 9452 MC, a manual-winding flying tourbillon movement first introduced in 2007. Notably, it was the first Cartier manufacture movement to receive the Geneva Seal, a hallmark of superior craftsmanship and finishing. The movement beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers a 50-hour power reserve.
We’ve always felt that the Clé de Cartier’s sculptural design lends itself beautifully to high jewelry interpretations, and this Flying Tourbillon model once again confirms that impression.
