This new creation follows the design concept of the 2022 Octo Finissimo Ultra. Since the structure of the BVL180 movement was already near its minimal thickness limit, BVLGARI’s watchmakers turned their focus to the sapphire crystal. After repeated attempts, they successfully reduced its thickness by 0.1mm, ultimately achieving the record-breaking total case thickness of just 1.7mm.
The grey titanium octagonal case has a well-proportioned diameter of 40mm. The case back is crafted from an extremely hard tungsten carbide alloy, providing reliable strength and resilience. The functional crowns are discreetly integrated into the case sides: the left side for winding and the right for time-setting. The wearer can operate these manually or utilize the dedicated case – simply placing the watch inside activates its built-in mechanism to automatically set the time and fully wind the mainspring.
The openworked dial adopts a layout similar to a regulator, with separate sub-dials for a single hand: the hour at 2 o’clock and the minutes at 4 o’clock. The grey PVD-coated sub-dials paired with rhodium-plated hands ensure excellent legibility. The movement’s gear train, balance wheel with escapement, and mainspring barrel are all visibly displayed, significantly enhancing the watch’s visual appeal.
The COSC-certified BVL180 manual-winding movement is merely 1.5mm thick, operates at a frequency of 28,800 vph, and offers a 50-hour power reserve. During assembly, an optical measurement system accurate to 1/10th of a micron was used for calibration, achieving a precision rating of -4/+6 seconds per day. Flipping the watch over reveals a small DataMatrix QR code on the case back; scanning it provides access to documentary footage of the watch’s creation.
It is paired with an ultra-thin 1.5mm-thick titanium bracelet. It is a limited edition of 20 pieces, with an official price of €600,000.
