The “H1 Air Black Pixel” is part of HYT’s newly launched H1 Air collection. Compared to the first-generation H1, its standout feature lies in the redesigned minute dial — an open-worked structure that reveals both the seconds subdial and the power-reserve indicator beneath.
The titanium case measures 48.8 mm in diameter and 17.9 mm in thickness. Thanks to the ergonomically curved lugs that conform to the wrist, it wears comfortably despite its size. The lightweight titanium construction also ensures a balanced overall weight.
HYT remains the only watchmaker to incorporate a hydromechanical system into a wristwatch — a concept that required a complete re-engineering of the movement to integrate traditional mechanical gear trains with an independent hydraulic module. Components are custom-made by suppliers who also work with NASA, and the brand has developed fluids that are minimally affected by temperature variations.
In our view, before 2015 HYT was primarily focused on perfecting the technical reliability of its hydraulic movements. Since 2015, however, the brand has fully mastered its chosen technology and begun to explore new frontiers in aesthetics and design.
The H1 Air Black Pixel stands as a prime example of this design success — its monochrome, Minecraft-inspired dial and case create a striking contrast that enhances the visibility of the bright green fluidic hour indicator (shown at 7 o’clock in the photo). The off-centered minute subdial at 12 o’clock mirrors the hydraulic engine chamber at 6 o’clock, while the open-worked sections symmetrically expose the seconds and power-reserve displays. Despite its mechanical complexity, the overall layout remains clean and intuitive.
Through the sapphire crystal caseback, one can admire the elegant architecture of the movement. The bridge at 3 o’clock is engraved with the movement code — HYT Calibre 101 — offering a 65-hour power reserve, which still leaves some room for improvement for a hand-wound caliber.
