At Baselworld 2015, Breguet unveiled the Tradition Automatique Seconde Rétrograde 7097, a complex timepiece distinguished by its signature movement architecture displayed on the dial side and its unique retrograde seconds mechanism. The 40 mm case features Breguet’s classic coin-edge fluting along the band. The open-dial movement layout follows a three-hand configuration: the off-centered hour and minute subdial at 12 o’clock, and the retrograde seconds display at 10 o’clock, where the seconds hand sweeps across a 60-second arc before snapping back to zero—adding dynamic visual interest to the passage of time.
Opposite the seconds display, at 4 o’clock, sits the pare-chute shock protection system, an invention by Abraham-Louis Breguet dating back to 1790, recognized as one of the earliest balance wheel shock absorbers in horological history. Its inclusion here pays tribute to Breguet’s heritage, a hallmark of the Tradition collection.
Inside beats the Caliber 505SR1 automatic movement, operating at 21,600 vibrations per hour with a 50-hour power reserve. The movement features a silicon escapement and balance spring, and through the sapphire crystal caseback, one can admire the distinctive gold oscillating weight shaped like an anchor.
The watch is available in 18K rose gold or 18K white gold; we find the rose gold version particularly striking, as it complements the gray-toned movement finishing beautifully.
