The Ressence Type 1 Squared is the brand’s first cushion-shaped wristwatch, as well as its first model designed as a dress watch. The case thickness has been reduced to 11.5mm, making it significantly slimmer and more refined for formal wear compared to previous Ressence creations.
The 41mm stainless steel case recalls the aesthetic of vintage Panerai cushion cases. Between the domed sapphire crystal and the dial lies a layer of oil, eliminating air refraction and creating the optical illusion that the dial and crystal are one seamless surface.
The dial showcases Ressence’s signature Orbital Convex System (ROCS): the outermost track displays the minutes, indicated by the long central hand, while the three rotating subdials show hours, seconds, and the day of the week. Both the main and subsidiary dials feature a fine brushed finish, producing a silky metallic sheen that shifts beautifully under light.
Powering the watch is a heavily modified ETA 2824 movement, chosen for its higher torque output to drive the orbital dial mechanism.True to Ressence’s minimalist philosophy, the Type 1 Squared features no traditional crown — instead, time-setting and winding are performed via a rotating caseback lever. The movement provides a 36-hour power reserve.
